I had the pleasure of working as an Environment Artist on the Rocket Racing track: Thrash Mountain. This was part of Fortnite's larger ecosystem experience in collaboration with Metallica for the v30.10 update.
This track is the largest Rocket Racing track to date- about 3x the size of our normal tracks! To keep things interesting, we split the track into 3 sections. One being the approach towards the volcano- where players must navigate twists and turns among a large volcanic sea, ridden with huge statues of the band's instruments. The second section takes the player into a dreamlike sequence on a guitar fretboard, and past giant holograms of the band members. The final section takes the player through a graveyard of chained hands, and into the mouth of the volcano itself. The track ends as the players circle the band members playing on stage.
This track was a team effort, working with Environment Artists: Judd Roy, Jason Mattke, and Andrew Bangel.
